ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification to increase the power tariffs by Rs. 2.24 per unit for the month of January, ARY News reports on Tuesday.

The rates have been increased in respect to the fuel adjustment charges. The rates will be adjusted in the bills for the month of March.

Fifty-four per cent of electricity was generated through furnace oil due to which the per unit cost of the electricity reached up to Rs. 11.78 per unit, the notification says.

Officials have expressed their optimism that the power rates will go down due to the depreciation of dollar and better supply of gas in the country.
