Nine killed in Punjab road crashes
BHAKKAR: At least nine people and over a dozen injured in two separate horrific road accidents in different parts of Punjab on Tuesday, ARY News reported.
In the first crash, five people were killed and eight others injured when a van collided with a car near Muhammadyar Wala at Jhang road in Bhakkar.
The deceased persons also include three female teachers. The injured and the bodies were moved to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
Police sources say the incident appeared to have caused by negligence of van driver and overspeeding.
In another accident, at least four people lost their lives in a collision between car and bus along Hafizabad Motorway.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the accidents.
Fatal road accidents are common in the country, where traffic rules are rarely enforced and roads in many rural areas are poor. In October last year, at least 30 people were killed in Rahim Yar Khan when two buses collided with each other.
Images from the crash site showed a horrific sight as bus on its side with its windows shattered, and another bus with its roof partly caved in.
