RAWALPINDI: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday urged the people of his constituency to just “overload the jeep” and make him emerge successful in July 25 general elections, ARY News reported.

Addressing a public rally in Chakra area of the city, the disgruntled PML-N leader who is now contesting as an independent, urged the people of the area to vote for jeep (his electoral symbol) in large numbers as they, the people, are his only source of power.

“Now that the jeep is allocated (as electoral symbol), just jump on it, normally people are not advised to overload their vehicles but for this jeep, I urge you all to just overload it,” said Nisar.

He maintained that his performance, popularity and electoral strength cannot  be compared with those contesting against him but political heavyweights like PML-N’s lifelong leader and former PM Nawaz Sharif.

“No man can stay loyal to someone like I stayed loyal to Nawaz Sharif,” said Nisar.

Responding to Nawaz’s statement expressing grief over Nisar’s statements, Nisar said that Nawaz too should think how his statements have hurt him (Nisar).

Concluding his speech, he added that he rejected alliance and joining offers by rival parties due his principled approach.

“God willing, jeep will beat all its opponents with a heavy margin,” said Nisar.

It is pertinent to note here that the former PML-N stalwart Chaudhry Nisar is contesting as an independent candidate on four seats – two National Assembly and two Punjab Assembly seats.

NA-59 (Rawalpindi), NA 63 (Taxila) and Punjab Assembly’s PP-10 and PP-12 will see Nisar contesting polls on ‘jeep’ symbol.

The new constituency of NA-59 comprises areas such as Chakri, Chontra, Saddar Baironi, Adiyala, Rawat and other adjoining areas.
