Nisar, Raheel consider to stop air strikes against Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan called on Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Shareef on Sunday to review the strategy after Taliban’s announcement of ceasefire, ARY News reported.

According to sources, Federal Minister and COAS have considered the idea to stop air strikes against militants.                     

Both agreed to keep an eye on Taliban’s movement and to take prompt retaliatory action against Taliban in case of any attack on security forces.                              

Taliban’s announcement for ceasefire             

On Saturday (March 1), Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had announced for an unconditional ceasefire with the Government for a month's period.             

The Spokesperson of TTP, Shahidullah Shahid expressed hope that the Government will positively respond to their ceasefire announcement.                     

Following the announcement, negotiation process for peace talks between the government and the Taliban has gained momentum.                             

Earlier today, government sources informed that government might also halt strategic strikes against militant groups.
