ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali has called a meeting of the government committee who held talks with Taliban Shura yesterday, ARY News reported on Thursday.
The interior minister has summoned the government negotiators to get detailed briefing over yesterday's meeting with Taliban in the tribal region, which was attended by five members of Taliban Shura and three interlocutors of the militants including Maulana Samiul Haq, Prof. Ibrahim and Yousuf Shah.
In direct talks, the representatives of the government and Taliban agreed over extension in ceasefire period. The issue of release of the non-combatants was also discussed, sources said.
The government negotiators and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) agreed to continue talks after the face-to-face meeting between the two sides in a remote tribal area.
The fate of the month-long ceasefire as well as the peace process hinges on the release of ‘non-combatant’ Taliban prisoners allegedly in the custody of security agencies, sources said.
