ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Asad Umer has cleared the air about seeking a bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking on the floor of Senate, he apprised the lawmakers “The government does not intend to approach IMF for now.”
The statement of the United States administration pertaining to the bailout package was unnecessary, he said while adding that the loan of China on Pakistan is still less.
“Even if Pakistan goes to the IMF programme, this won’t be the first time that Pakistan has gone to the IMF programme. We have gone to the programme 12 times previously,”he said.
Asad Umer acknowledged the fact that country’s economic situation is on life’s support, therefore, “We will put the situation in front of public and consult the parliament before making any decision,” he announced.
Previously, on different occasions, Finance Minister has said that the PTI government would take all necessary steps to retrieve the national money, which has been deposited in foreign accounts.
He said that only in Dubai, Pakistanis have invested 8 billion dollars. He highlighted that for the formation of a “Naya Pakistan”, his party needs the consistent support of the people.
Finance Minister said all out resources will be used for generation of revenue. He said our immediate focus will be on giving relief to pensioners and widows.
