No terrorist safe havens in Pakistan, says DG ISPR
KARACHI: There are no safe havens of terrorists in the country as the armed forces have successfully eliminated their sanctuaries, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Major General Asif Ghafoor on Thursday.
Addressing an event at Karachi University, he said the Pakistan military has successfully carried out operations, including Operation Zarb-e-Azab, to wipe out terrorists from the Pakistani soil.
Highlighting the geographical importance of Pakistan, Gen Ghafoor said the global economy is linked with Pakistan.
He said in order to destroy a country, the armed forces of that country are targeted.
When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, it was said that the invasion posed a threat to Islam and as a result, the Soviet troops were driven out of Afghanistan with help of the United States.
The DG ISPR said the foreign forces came to Afghanistan after 9/11, forcing militants to flee into Pakistan.
He said the fundamentalism does exist in the west and India in various forms.
