Nomination papers of Shehbaz, Hamza, Bilawal approved

LAHORE: Nomination papers of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif for NA-132 and NA-192 constituencies of the National Assembly were accepted on Tuesday. 

A Returning Officer in Lahore also approved the papers filed by his son Hamza Shehbaz and famed singer Jawad Ahmed to contest the July 25 polls from NA-132.

Nomination forms of veteran politician Javed Hashmi for NA-155 constituency were also approved.

Nomination papers filed by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, who heads his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and recently revived alliance of religio-political parties – Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA), to contest polls on NA-38 and NA-39 were also accepted by the relevant returning officers.

A returning officer in Karachi approved Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s nomination for the constituency of NA-246, while the papers of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Arshad Vohra for NA-254 and NA-255 were also accepted.

A day earlier, the nomination papers of Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif, for National Assembly constituency NA-125 was accepted after the respective returning officer announced the verdict, rejecting all objections against the papers.

The deadline set for completing the process of scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates for coming general elections ends today.

As per the election schedule, appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed by 22nd of this month.

The Appellate Tribunals will decide the appeals by 27th, after which the revised list of candidates will be published on 28th of this month.

Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 29th June and the electoral body will announce the final list of candidates the same day.
