One more hanged to death in Pakistan

A death row convict Afzaal was executed in Faisalabad Central Jail on Thursday morning. Afzaal,  resident of Sheikhupura district of Punjab was awarded death penalty on April 13, 2000 for killing Saleem alias Shaheen in 1995.

The convict in his will advised his family members to refrain from personal conflicts and control their anger.

Stringent security measures were taken before the hanging.

Pakistan government lifted the moratorium on death penalties as a move to step up its fight against militants and criminals after Taliban militants killed around 150 people – mostly children – at Peshawar’s Army Public School on December 16 last year.

The moratorium, in force since 2008, was initially lifted only in terrorism cases. However, the government extended the order earlier this month
