Outgoing Chief of Naval Staff pays farewell visit to CJCSC

RAWALPINDI: Outgoing Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah paid a farewell visit to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat at Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi.

Gen Hayat praised the remarkable services of Admiral Zakaullah during his tenure as the naval chief. He also commended his contribution towards enhancing operational capabilities of Pakistan Navy, inter-services cooperation and transformation of Pakistan Navy into a potent force.

In his remarks, Admiral Zakaullah expressed gratitude to Gen Hayat for commending his services and best wishes.

The incumbent naval chief will relinquish the command of Pakistan Navy on October 7. The change of command ceremony will be held at PNS Zafar, Islamabad.

On Tuesday, President Mamnoon Hussain approved the appointment of  Vice Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi as the next naval chief. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had recommended his name for the slot.

Zafar Mahmood  was top on the seniority list of the naval officers. Others who were considered included Vice Admiral S.A.  Hussaini, Vice Admiral Shah Sohail Masood and Vice Admiral Waseem Akram.

Abbasi joined the Pakistan Navy in 1978 and was educated at the Pakistan Naval Academy. His has also served as commandant of the Naval Academy as well as Director-General of the Maritime Security Agency. He took over as vice chief of naval staff in June 2017.
