Pak-Afghan traders sign declaration to promote trade

Islamabad: Vice President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Member Advisory Committee Planning Commission Iftikhar Ali Mali Sunday said that a strategy has been evolved to enhance trade and business cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, particularly in the backdrop of US pulls out from Afghanistan in 2014.

Malik said that a two-day Seminar of Pak Afghanistan traders and businessmen was held which concluded on signing of a joint declaration, pointing out several measures to enhance cooperation among the neighboring countries in various fields of economy.

The conference was attended by parliamentarians from Afghanistan, businessmen, traders and private sector representatives of both the countries.

“Both the nations need to look forwarded to future and forget about the past and promote peace and trade for the mutual benefit of peoples of both the nations,” he said.

He said that the declaration is to bring together politicians, media men, traders and other representative of both the countries to devise a comprehensive mechanism for promotion of bilateral relations.

He was of the view that good political relations between the two countries would definitely lead towards promotion of trade adding both the countries have great potential for promoting trade relations.

Malik said that the seminar was organized to devise a joint strategy for promotion of overall cooperation between the two countries and set up a way forward for the purpose.

He said that Pakistan has expertise in various fields and can help Afghanistan as it can transfer technology in automobile industry to Afghanistan besides providing help in education through scholarships.

Commenting on the GSP Plus status granted by European Union to Pakistan, he said, it will certainly help the textile industry to increase its exports and the volume could be multiplied if the new items are designed, produced and marketed in 27 states as per their demand.
