LAHORE: Pakistani athletes grabbed an impressive 16 medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games which concluded in Austria on Saturday
The event concluded with a grand ceremony held in Graz. The mega event featured over 3,000 athletes from 110 countries was held from March 14-25 and featured twelve delegates from Pakistan.
The Pakistani contingent will be returning home with three gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
The women’s snowshoeing team finished first in the relay race event, covering the distance in a minute and 54 seconds. The men’s team won a silver in the same category.

Huzaifa Qazi won gold in the 200-metre snowshoe, while Muhammad Hamza Aslam clinched bronze in the men’s 200-metre race. Farah Ahsan also won a bronze medal in the 200 metre race.
Sabahat Tariq claimed the gold medal in the women’s 100-metre sprint, while Qazi and Pervaiz Ahmad won silver in the men’s event. Fatima Amir and Muhammad Abdullah grabbed silver and copper medals respectively in Taekwondo.
The leader of the Pakistani delegation, Anees-ur-Rehman, said that athletes enjoyed their stay and competed with high spirits, and the Winter World Games had revitalised their enthusiasm.
