Pakistan beats Bangladesh by 50 runs
MIRPUR: Pakistan has defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Sunday, ARY News reported.
This victory for Pakistan has set up a straight shootout between them and West Indies for the second semi-final spot from Group 2 knocking Australia out of the tournament.
Bangladesh was nowhere near Pakistan during their chase and only scored 140 runs in reply to Pakistan’s 190.
Shakib Al Hassan was the top scorer with 38 runs while Nasir Hossain made 23.
Umar Gul took 3 wickets conceding 30 runs in 4 overs while Saeed Ajmal dismissed two Bangladeshi batsmen.
Earlier, Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez won the toss and chose to bat. He said the pitch looked dry and wanted his spinners to bowl in the second half of the game.
Ahmed Shehzad scored unbeaten 111 becoming the first Pakistani batsman to score a century in a Twenty20 International.
Shoaib Malik scored 26 runs from 23 balls.
Shahid Afridi played aggressively and scored 22 that came off in 9 balls.
Pakistan set the target of 191 for hosts at the loss of 5 wickets.
Abdur Razzak took two wickets in the innings while Al-Amin Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah took one wicket each.
