Shawwal moon not sighted, Pakistan to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

KARACHI: Chairman Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced the sighting of moon for the month of Shawwal on Thursday and said that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16.

The The announcement was made by Mufti Muneeb after chairing a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee.

The Central committee met in Karachi while the zonal committees met in Peshawar, Quetta and Lahore.

It is pertinent to mention here that neighbouring India will also celebrate the festival on Saturday while Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia will be celebrating Eid tomorrow.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after the end of Ramazan, the month of fasting, to thank Almighty Allah.

The day dawns with special prayers after Fajr prayers in mosques for the well-being of the Ummah, progress and prosperity of Pakistan, and pledge to make the country a citadel of Islam.

After sunrise, the faithful throng mosques, Eidgahs and open places to offer Eid prayers.

After offering Eid prayers, the faithful meet each other and exchange Eid greetings.
