ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, on Monday, bewailed that  Pakistan has drifted away from its founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision and “flawed governance and injustice have become the part of our society.”

Addressing a ceremony of New Judicial Year on full court reference, the chief justice recounted, “the rule of law, transparency and accountability can put the country back onto the vision of Quaid.”

Being a guardian of the constitution, the top judge said, the judiciary tried to fulfill its duty towards the constitutional and basic human rights. In the light of public concerns, the judiciary took notices including foreign bank accounts, dual citizenship, genocide of Hazara community, Katas Raj temple and poor facilities at hospitals.

The chief justice highlighted that fees reforms in medical and law colleges as well as giving voting right to overseas Pakistanis are also among few initiatives of the judiciary that come under the ambit of public interest issues.

On the onset of previous year, 37,000 cases were pending before the courts and only 9,000 cases were given verdicts out of it. The rate of resolving cases during last five years was the highest, chief justice informed.

He further stated that the Supreme Court has adopted the ‘policy of zero-tolerance’ against unnecessary delay in the resolution of cases.
