Pakistan has taken several measures to become NSG member: envoy

NEW YORK: Pakistan has taken several steps to become enable for the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), the country’s representative said.

According to Radio Pakistan, Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan Nabeel Munir highlighted the country’s eligibility to become a member of the group while speaking in the United Nations Security Council.

Munir highlighted Pakistan’s dedication towards its non-proliferation obligations and said it is a supporter of UN the non-proliferation resolution.

He highlighted the need of adopting a criteria-based and non-discriminatory approach for membership of the group and civil nuclear cooperation in export control regimes.

Jan Eliasson, UN Deputy-Secretary-General, stressed on the dangers posed by the weapons of mass destruction in wrong hands and urged the world community to take advantage of every opportunity  in order to strengthen collective defences.
