Pakistan and India ready for new ties

TOP NEWS

Karachi: Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Chairman Arshad Aziz said he was thrilled at the overwhelming response from exhibitors, saying that about 45% stalls have already been booked at the ‘Made In Pakistan Expo 2014’ being held in Mumbai, India.

“If all goes well, the event may fetch at least $100 million worth of export orders and Pakistani garments, especially ladies wear, are in great demand in India,” said Aziz, while addressing a press conference on Monday. “Long-term business deals between the two countries will help flourish bilateral trade and Pakistan’s value-added sector could be given a big boost.”

While giving details, Aziz said that the expo, which would run from April 3 to 7, has been duly endorsed by the ministry of commerce and the textile industry.

He added that PRGMEA has arranged business-to-consumer and business-to-business meetings between Pakistani exhibitors and manufacturers with Indian buyers.

Pakistani trade delegations will also visit India on the occasion so that the exhibitors could avail maximum benefit from the event.

Fashion clothing, home textiles, handicrafts, marble items, food items and other goods would also be displayed at the event.

“The PRGMEA has asked the Indian government to reduce the duty tariff on Pakistan’s garments and remove non-tariff barriers imposed by Indian government on our exports,” he added.
