Pakistan overwhelms Afghanistan with a bonus point win

FATULLAH: Pakistan overwhelmed Afghanistan with a comprehensive victory of 73 runs securing bonus point too, on Thursday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah, ARY News reported.

Afghanistan winning the toss decided to bowl first. Afghanistan playing only their third ODI against a Test-playing nation had put Pakistan in a shock of being bowled out for under 200 runs. 

But middle order batsmen, Umar Akmal averted that fate with his second ODI hundred, his unbeaten 89-ball 102 steering Pakistan from a precarious 117 for 6 to a relatively safe total of 248 for 8.

Ahmed Shahzad was the second top scorer for Pakistan with 50 runs.

Afghan’s top order remained watchful scoring around 3.5 runs per over and were 139-3 till 36th over.

Three of their batsmen got start but wasn’t able to improvise. Noor Ali Zadran made 44, Asghar Stanikzai scored 44 and Nawroz Mangal got run out at 35.

Pakistani spinners created difficulties for the Afghanistan’s batsmen taking overall seven wickets.

 Right-arm spinner Mohammad Hafeez is Pakistan's most successful bowler of the match with 3 wickets.

Saeed Ajmal remained economical conceding 25 runs in 9 overs with 2 wickets while Shahid Khan Afridi finished as 10-0-31-1.
