Pakistan should see if Trump’s tweet determines US policy, says foreign secy
KARACHI: Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affair Tehmina Janjua on Saturday said Pakistan would have to see if a tweet of US President Donald Trump determines the US policy or Trump tweeted as per the US policy, ARY News reported.
“Trump’s tweet posted on Januaray 1 is unfathomable. The same day he posted one tweet on Iran also. It shows as if the US president was thingking about two countries at 4am in the night,” she said addressing a seminar in Karachi.
She said the US embassy should clarify if the future policies would be established through such statements.
“We will have to see if a Trump’s tweet determines the US policy or Trump tweeted on the basis of the US policy,” she said.
The foreign secretary said Pakistan should seriously adopt stance on the US issue. It would have to keep many foreign policy issues behind the scenes, she said addign that the US was a super power of the world and was like a neibhbour to Pakistan in the region.
“We have the policy of contacts with the US in current circumstances. We want strong ties with the US. Whenever we have had meetings with the US officials they were in a very positive environment,” she said.
She said India was trying to become a big force and the US was exploiting India for creating balance in its favor in the region.
Welcoming Japanese foreign minister’s recent visit, Tehmina said Pakistan’s foreign policy’s focus should not be the US only.
“We have good ties with big powers of the region that are China and Russia. China’s rise in the region as a big power is due to regional situation,” she said.
The foreign secy said repeated attempts were being made to destabilise Pakistan through Afghanistan.
“Pakistan has India on one hand and Afghanistan on the other while the US is in the center. The US wants to assign India the role of security in the region upon which Pakistan has apprehensions,” she said.
She said Indian Navy officer and RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhev was not a fiction character.
