PESHAWAR: A Pakistan Army soldier who was critically wounded from firing in Khyber Agency succumbed to his wounds on Monday, military public affairs wing Inter-Services Public Relations said.
“Sepoy Waqas was performing his duties at the border post when terrorists opened fire. The soldier succumbed to his injuries at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar,” said the ISPR statement.
The statement further adds “terrorists are resorting to fire from across the border taking advantage of weak border control on the Afghanistan side”. There is a requirement to check terrorists’ freedom of movement on the Afghan side of the border..
Army chief General Qamar Jawed Bajwa acknowledged Sepoy Waqas’s “sacrifice for the security of our motherland.”
Funeral prayers of the slain soldier were offered at Corps Headquarters Peshawar today. Corps Commander Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt, IGFC Maj Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood, chief secretary K-P and a large number of officers and soldiers attended the funeral prayers.
