Parliamentary leaders concur on forming military courts

The long session that continued for about eleven hours in Islamabad has finalized a national action plan to counter terrorism and extremism. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and was also attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Director General (DG) ISI Rizwan Akhtar.

During the meeting political and military leadership agreed on setting up of speedy trial courts.The special courts would be for two years and these would be headed by military officers.

Nawaz Sharif terming it as an historic occasion said that consensus has emerged on the national action plan.

Later, talking to media, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that special courts formed will work for two years against those spreading hate and chaos among masses.

Leader of opposition Syed Khurshid Shah said all political parties supported establishment of the speedy trial courts within the parameters of the Constitution.

Vice-Chairman of PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi said combined efforts are required to fight against the scourge of terrorism.
