KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has selected a young cricketer Usman Khan Shinwari in the Twenty20 squad for two matches series against Sri Lanka, ARY News reported.

The 19-year-old left-arm fast bowler has picked up 12 wickets with a best of 4 for 27 in four matches. He has also taken 16 wickets in 11 T20 games.

In his maiden season, the 19-year-old took 5 for 9 to help Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) beat Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the final of the Faysal Bank T20 Cup for departments in December.

Shinwari, who was born in Landi Kotal, a town 1,072m above sea level in the mountain ranges of FATA, said that he will try to make his place permanent in the team with good performance.

“Wasim Akram is my favorite player”, he said.

Shinwari has a good chance to impress the selectors in the absence of Mohammad Irfan and Umar Gul from the side. Irfan has been ruled out due to injury while another quick while Gul, has not fully recovered from a knee operation.

The first T20 match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played on December 11 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
