LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Sheharyar Khan relieved former test cricketer Basit Ali from his duties as head coach of Pakistan women cricket team and chairman national junior selection committee.

The decision was taken in the aftermath of his brawl with a former international cricketer Mehmood Hamid, said a PCB spokesman on Monday.

“The chairman’s [Sheharyar Khan] decision came after he had separate meetings with Basit Ali and Mehmood Hamid in Karachi following an alleged brawl between the two, few days ago. Although the two had reconciled, Basit Ali admitted to intent to physically harm Mehmood Hamid,” said the PCB statement.

“The PCB chairman has accordingly withdrawn Basit Ali from current assignments with the woman’s and junior selection committee.”

“However, the chairman has noted that there would be no general ban on Basit Ali’s future coaching assignments with PCB or other teams,” the PCB statement added.

The former test cricketer allegedly slapped Mehmood Hamid on the sidelines of a national one-day cricket (ODI) cricket tournament match in Karachi recently, an incident which received prompt attention in the mainstream and social media following the PCB came into action on Monday.
