PCB shortlists six names for head, batting and fielding coach

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) coach committee has shortlisted six names for three positions of head, batting and fielding coach, the final selections of three names out of six will be carried by Chairman PCB Zaka Ashraf, which is expected to be made on Monday, ARY News reported.

PCB's coach committee, comprising Javed Miandad, Intikhab Alam and Wasim Akram has made two recommendations for each position as the board looks to find replacements for Dav Whatmore and fielding coach Julien Fountain in time for the forthcoming Asia Cup in Bangladesh while the Pakistan team doesn't have a batting coach and the new post has been created by the cricket board.

There weren’t any overseas applicants among the 25 that were received for the three posts., sources revealed.

Australia's Dav Whatmore and Julian Fountain of England quit as head coach and fielding coach respectively after Pakistan won the third Test by five wickets in a thrilling run chase to level the three-match series against Sri Lanka 1-1.

Whatmore took over as coach in March 2012 from Mohsin Khan. Prior to that, he had also coached Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In the bid to find replacement PCB had issued the advertisement on media for three vacant positions with the dead line of February 6 for the application.
