ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervez Rasheed said Ministry of Law had authorized the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to decide the case of Geo TV, ARY News reported Wednesday.
“Pemra in an independent body and we do not want to interfare in its affairs,” said the minister.
He, however, said it would take time to form legal opinion on the matter.
Rasheed said no minister should be allowed to shut or restore any TV channel. “Pemra has clarified its stand in its meeting held yesterday.”
There is a need to cure ill mentality, he said, adding the maximum number of fatwas (religious edict) were targeting him.
