If PEMRA independent, it should take an action against Geo News: Senate members
ISLAMABAD: Members of the opposition in the Senate of Pakistan, have said that Geo News committed a mistake due to which cases were registered against it and if the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is independent, then it should take an action on the issue – ARY News reports.
During the session of the Senate on Monday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member, Raza Rabbani said that the country was transformed into a garrison state, after Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and if a dictator is again given a chance, then this will spread anarchy in the state.
He said that the elections are being tried to be made a question mark and warned that an effort to change the system of the country, will be harmful.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan declared Geo TV's broadcasts as inappropriate and told that due to this some 40 cases have been registered against the media organization countrywide.
Senator Saeed Ghani said that Geo TV overplayed on the issue of assassination attempt on Hamid Mir, in return everyone disliked the defamation of the ISI Chief.
He said that if PEMRA had authority, it would have taken an action on the issue.
