Peshawar Panthers seal national T20 title

KARACHI: Peshawar Panthers for the first time clinched the title of national T20 by defeating Lahore Lions in the final of the Haier T20 played at National Stadium, Karachi, ARY News reported.

Lions after winning the toss opted to bat first, their openers playing with the low run-rate failed to set the momentum. Kamran Akmal in particular, who scored 4 off 11.

Abid Ali (22) and Akmal were dismissed off successive deliveries, by left-arm pacer Taj Wali.

After 10 overs, Lions had only got to 55. But managed to got past the 130-run mark mainly because of a half-century from No. 3 Imam-ul-Haq. He ended not out on 52 off 41, with six fours, but a lack of support from the other end meant Lions could only manage a below-par 133 for 9.

Starting the chase, Panthers’ openers added 43 runs in four overs, hitting ten boundaries between them.

Later on, Iftikhar Ahmed top scored with 50 not out fully utilizing the explosive start brought team home with four balls to spare.

Panthers finish the tournament unbeaten.
