The petition is filed by Advocate Rana Ilmuddin.
He stated in his plea that army chief launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb that eliminated 90 per cent of terrorists from the country.
“The COAS also inflicted damage on the corrupt elements. Hence it has become inevitable to extend tenure of the incumbent army chief”, said the petition.
The petitioner was of the view that extension in service of top military commander was in national interest and “such a move would also take war on terror to its logical end,” he concluded.
In January this year, the army chief had issued a statement, saying he doesn’t believe in extension of his service and at the same time asserted that he will retire on the due date [that falls in November 2016].
