LAHORE: Following Nawaz Sharif’s controversial yet veiled admission of Pakistan’s role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, a number of petitions are being filed from different parts of the country seeking action against him under treason charges.

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court arguing that the comments of Nawaz about Mumbai attacks in his interview with a leading English daily were parallel to treason with the state.

Nawaz Shairf deliberately gave a controversial interview to malign the image of Pakistan, the petitioner said.

Under the charges of treason and for allegedly damaging the integrity of country with his anti-state remarks, an application has been forwarded at the Cantt Police station, Bahawalpur to register a case against Nawaz Sharif.

In Narowal, a petition is filed, seeking action against “disloyalty” of Nawaz Sharif who was sworn in as Pakistan’s prime minister three times.

Nawaz’s anti-state remarks:

Deposed premier Mian Nawaz Sharif, in an interview with a leading English daily, said that “militant organisations are active” in Pakistan and asked the interviewer if the state should allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai.

PML-N supreme leader’s stance on the ‘Mumbai Attacks’  triggered a flood of criticism from analysts, politicians and general public in Pakistan.

Sharif, who was answering a question about his ouster during the interview, steered the conversation towards foreign policy and national security by saying that Pakistan has isolated itself in international arena despite giving sacrifices in war on terror.
