PFUJ, KUJ condemn KPC incident

KARACHI: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) have strongly condemned the unfortunate incident that took place at the Karachi Press Club (KPC), during the press conference of cable operators on Friday – ARY News reports.

President of PFUJ, Rana Muhammad Azeem, Secretary General, Muhammad Amin Yousuf and President KUJ, G M Jamali said that this was the first incident of violating the dignity of the KPC and it hurt the prestige of not only the press club, but also of the journalistic fraternity, all over the world.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, PFUJ and KUJ officials demanded the KPC's governing body to take notice of the incident. They said that every individual, institution, organization and party has a right to explain its stance in a press conference, after which an explanation can be sought during the question/answer session.

It was said that when we can speak our stance because of the freedom of expression and freedom of press, then other's stance should also be listened patiently.

The PFUJ and KUJ members said that the history of the KPC is witness, that the press club has always represented deprived classes and played an important role in presenting their stance, whether it was military dictatorship or civil. This is why in Zia ul Haq's reign, KPC was referred to as enemies den.

They said that the journalists consider KPC as their second home, there inadequate treatment with the guests, who had come for holding a press conference is highly regrettable.
