Pillion riding banned across Sindh today

KARACHI: On request of the police authorities, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding all over the province on the 21st of Ramazan (today) on account of Yaum-e-Ali.

A notification issued by home secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez stated that both the additional IG Karachi and the DIG Hyderabad in their respective letters observed that intensive religious activities such as Majalis and processions will be held on Yaum-i-Ali, therefore, to counter security threat a ban on pillion riding should be imposed.

Anyone violating the law will be dealt accordingly, said the police.

Stringent security measures have been put in place in view of Youm-e-Ali, with Rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies jointly monitoring procession routes.

Around 5,572 policemen performing duty in the metropolis on Youm-e-Ali, according to the Sindh police.

At least, 72 police vehicles, 65 motorcycles, seven armored vehicles will also be the part of the security plan for Youm-e-Ali processions.

The central procession in Karachi will be taken out from Nishtar Park and will be concluded at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

Moreover, CCTV cameras have been installed at the route of the procession. Bomb disposal squad will check the route before the start of the procession and walk-through gates will also be installed at the entry points of the procession.
