MANSEHRA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Syed Ahmed Shah emerged victorious in the by-election in PK-30, Mansehra today (Wednesday), ARY News reported.

The PTI candidate bagged 46,438 votes while Syed Mazhar Ali of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured 39,946 votes.

The district administration had set up 186 polling stations for men and women across the constituency, while over 2,000 security personnel, including 1,200 army soldiers, were deployed to ensure peaceful and impartial polling.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, over 193,000 men and women voters were registered in the constituency.

In October 2018, the Supreme Court had disqualified the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Zia-ur-Rehman as a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, for contesting polls while holding a fake degree.

Then chief justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar headed a Supreme Court bench hearing a case pertaining to fake degree of the PML-N leader. During the hearing, the CJP had said: “You did your matric in 1996 and did a course in a madrasah in the same year. How is this possible?”

Rehman had won the electoral battle from PK-30, Mansehra-I during the general election on July 26 last year.
