Plea rejected: Court summons Umar Akmal on March 14

LAHORE: A district and sessions court Lahore on Monday rejected a prosecution plea of withdrawal of case against Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal and summoned him again on March 14, 2014, ARY News reported.

As judicial magistrate Imtiaz Ahmed Noor began proceedings of the case, when prosecutor told the court that traffic warden and Umar Akmal had settled the dispute mutually, hence the case be disposed of.

The court expressed resentment on the observation and asked whether a culprit shouldn’t appear before the court, even if a matter was settled.

The court rejected a plea of withdrawal of case and summoned Akmal on March 14.

Earlier on March 6, father of Umar Akmal met the traffic warden, Zeeshan, in presence of DIG Investigation Zulfikar Haider, CTO Sohail Chaudhary and SP CIA Umar Warak and tendered unconditional apology on behalf of his son.

In reply, the traffic warden accepted the apology and verbally withdrew his case. Akmal’s father said a misunderstanding led to an altercation between the warden and Akmal, which had now been resolved.
