ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a key meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders today.

The meeting will be held at 4pm at the prime minister’s Bani Gala residence. Sources said the meeting will discuss and work out a strategy to tackle the current political and economic situation in the country.

The participant will likely deliberate on the recent reshuffle in the federal cabinet, the opposition’s reaction and other issues.

A new media strategy will also be chalked out at the meeting. All the party leaders, including party spokesperson have been asked to ensure their presence in the meeting.

The meeting will follow on the heels of a major reshuffle in the cabinet after the resignation of Asad Umar as finance minister.

Asad Umar stepped down in a cabinet shuffle on Thursday. The government named Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, a former World Bank official who served as finance minister from 2010-2013, as adviser on finance, replacing Umar.

Umar, one of Khan’s most powerful ministers, had been entrusted with the task of negotiating the long-delayed bailout with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the country’s cash-strapped economy faces a balance-of-payments crisis.

“As part of a cabinet reshuffle, PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance,” Asad Umar had tweeted.
