PM directs IG Sindh to de-politicise police, promote merit

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday directed Sindh police chief Syed Kaleem Imam to free his force from political influence and make appointments on merit, ARY News reported.

He gave these directions while presiding over a meeting on law and order at State Guest House in the metropolis.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Karachi Corps Commander Lt. Gen Humayun Aziz, Rangers director general Major Gen Muhammad Saeed, and Sindh chief secretary as well as officials from the country’s intelligence agencies were in attendance.

The IG Sindh briefed the premier about his force’s performance.

The prime minister expressed concern over the rate of street crime and the kidnapping of children in the sprawling port city and directed the police chief to clamp down on them.

He directed that those who create law and order situation be brought to book without any discrimination.

The premier directed the IG Sindh to de-politicise his force and make appointments on the basis of merit.

Mr Khan said targeted action against crime as well as targeted development is his government’s vision.

He lauded efforts of the security forces, including Pakistan Rangers, Sindh and police, in bringing peace to the metropolis.

Later, the governor briefed the premier about progress on various on-going development projects in the city.

The prime minister is in the city on a daylong visit.
