ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed the concerned authorities to set up South Punjab secretariat by mid-2019.
Chairing a high-level meeting, PM Imran directed the authorities to take adequate measures to operationalize the South Punjab secretariat by mid next year.
Planning Minister Makhdum Khusro Bakhtiyar, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Punjab Finance Minister Makhdum Hashim Jawaan Bakht, and the chief secretary of Punjab were present in the meeting.
Administrative matters regarding creation of new province of South Punjab also came under discussion during the meeting.
Whereas the Minister for Planning Khusro Bakhtiyar gave a detailed briefing about social and economic facts pertaining to the South Punjab.
It is pertinent to mention here that the district government, on November 24, had proposed two sites for the south Punjab secretariat.
According to recommendations sent to the provincial government, the district government had suggested a new complex at 584 kanals and 19 marlas on Mati Tal Road, said sources.
While the other suggested location for the secretariat is in the possession of Pakistan Cotton Committee and is owned by the provincial government on Old Shujaabad Road. The 291 kanals and 12 marlas piece is already being used for cotton research propose.
