PM Imran reviews development on conversion of PM House into university

ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting on conversion of PM House into university with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, reviewed the progress and approved to establish an Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) in first phase of the university on Wednesday.  

According to the details, the meeting gave approval to constitute a committee, headed by chairman HEC, to review draft of the charter of the proposed university.

The meeting was attended by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Chairman Higher Education Commission Tariq Banuri and officials of Higher Education Commission.

It also accorded approval to establish a search committee under education minister to choose Vice Chancellor of the university.

The decision to form a committee for design and operational matters of the university was also taken in the meeting.

Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood on September 13 had announced to convert the Prime Minister House into a university.

Addressing a press conference, the minister had announced that PTI government is fulfilling its election pledge by converting the PM House into an educational institute of “top standard”

He maintained that additional construction will also be carried out on the land behind the PM House after a formal plan is devised in this regard.

“The PM House is spread over 1,096 kanals and Rs 470 million are spent on its upkeep annually,” said Mehmood, who also heads a committee formed to decide how government-owned buildings could be utilised in public interest.
