ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday categorically stated that former premier Nawaz Sharif’s statement about Pakistan’s alleged role in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks was misreported by the Indian media to achieve its ends.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the premier said: “The Indian media misreported the interview and blew up a certain portion to serve its interests, but unfortunately we fanned its propaganda.”
He dispelled an impression that those who were involved in the Mumbai attacks were deliberately sent to India from Pakistan. “There is no truth in these assertions attributed to Mr. Sharif.”
The PM affirmed Pakistan doesn’t allow its soil to be used against anyone in any way. “This entire episode based on misreporting should come to an end now,” he urged.
He categorically stated that Pakistan has a consistent policy of not allowing use of its soil for attacks against any other country and this has been the policy in the past and remains so at present.
Abbasi offered to form a national commission to probe the matter and said he won’t oppose it, if need be.
He also slammed political opponents for adding fuel to the fire, saying the issue should die down now after clarification and urging them not to use the issue to achieve political goals.
The prime minister emphasized that they should not allow themselves to become a tool of India to serve its interests.
