ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered an immediate inquiry into the ‘shocking tragedy’ of the killing of Senior Superintendent (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar, the premier announced on Twitter on Thursday.

In his tweet, PM Khan notified that he has “followed the shocking tragedy of the murder of SP Tahir Khan Dawar” and directed Khyber Pakhtunkhawa government to coordinate with Islamabad police in carrying out a speedy probe.

He further wrote that Minister of State on Interior “Shehryar Khan Afridi has been tasked to oversee” the matter on urgent basis, while also instructing the minister to present a report on the sensitive murder case.

In the past, SP Tahir had survived two suicide attacks, moreover, his brother and sister-in-law had already been martyred.

A day earlier, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the body of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar, who was abducted from Islamabad last month, was found in Dur Baba district of Nangarhar province.

The local police brought the deceased’s body to Mohmand Dara district and is being transferred to Jalalabad by the Afghan authorities, the statement said, adding that the body is yet to be received by the Consul General of Pakistan in Jalalabad.

It would be subsequently transferred to Pakistan via Torkham border after completion of necessary formalities.

Tahir Khan Dawar was kidnapped from Islamabad’s G-10/4 area on Oct 26. He belonged to North Waziristan district.

Few days back, pictures of the SP’s tortured body with a hand-written letter placed on his chest, began doing rounds on social media.
