PM lays foundation stone of coal-based power plants in Sahiwal

SAHIWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today laid the foundation stone of two coal-based power plants, with each of them meant to generate 660 megawatts of electricity, ARY News reported Friday.

The two power plants will cumulatively generate 1320 MWs of electricity.

The construction of both the power plants, initiated with the help of China, will complete by 2016 with a cost of Rs 1.58 billion.

The plants will operate as independent power producers and it is first coal-based power plant to be started in Punjab.

Sources informed that Punjab had 500 million tons of coal reserves. In view of such massive coal reserves, sources told that the government had planned to six more coal-based power projects on different locations in Punjab.
