PM Nawaz to award 3G, 4G licenses to successful bidders

ISLAMABAD: A ceremony to hand over 3G, 4G mobile spectrum licenses to successful bidders will be held in Islamabad on Thursday, ARY News has learnt.

Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif will himself award the licenses to the mobile operators who had won 3G, 4G licenses via bidding.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) carried the auction for four 3G and two 2G licenses on April 23. China Mobile (Zong) had won 10 Mhz for 3G as well as  10Mhz for 4G, Mobilink had won 10Mhz for 3G spectrum while PTML (Ufone) and Telenor Pakistan had won 5Mhz for 3G spectrum each. 

The government had generated the total of $1.182 billion from the auction.

Some mobile service operators have started the trial 3G service, while the services formally expected to be rolled out from May 23.
