PM Nawaz inaugurates coal-based power project in Karachi

KARACHI: Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday laid the foundation of coal-based power project having capacity to generate 1320 MW electricity at Port Qasim, ARY News reported.

The Prime Minister was welcome by Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on his arrival to Karachi.

PM Nawaz was accompanied by Federal Minister for Information Pervez Rasheed and State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali.

The coal-based power project is divided into two phases, first phase of the project will be of 660 megawatt capacity and it will use imported coal to generate power while another project will be started with the same capacity.

The two phases of the first coal-based power plant project in the private sector will be completed by December 2017.
