PM Nawaz Sharif arrives in Tajikistan on two-day trip

DUSHANBE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has arrived in Dushanbe on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, the premier was received by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda at the airport.

The PM was accorded guard of honour at a ceremony held at the palace of President Imamali Rehmon to welcome the guest.

Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Khurram Dastgir and top government officials are accompanying the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

During the two-day visit, the leaders of the two countries will discuss bilateral relations in diverse fields and also exchange views on regional and international issues.

According to a press release issued by the media wing of Prime Minister House yesterday, regional and international issues of mutual interest, with particular attention to Pakistan’s policy of a peaceful neighbourhood will come under discussion in the talks between the two leaders.

A Joint Declaration entitled “Road towards strategic partnership for regional solidarity” will also be signed during the visit.  A meeting of Joint Business Council (JBC) will coincide with the visit of the premier. The JBC will consider steps to enhance bilateral trade and commercial ties.

Tajikistan is also hosting a Quadrilateral Summit of CASA-1000 member states, namely; Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan.

This project aims at developing energy corridor and land connectivity between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It will also provide electricity produced in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
