ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was received by Army Chief Ashfaq Pervez Kayani when he reached General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on a visit, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Sharif laid floral wreath at the memorial of martyrs after his arrival in GHQ.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will discuss important issues including the talks with Taliban with the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani.
The premier’s meeting with the military leadership is being held in the backdrop of recent killing of Hakeemullah Mehsud in a US drone strike, which resulted in effectively shelving the prospects of talks with Taliban for now.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be given a briefing by the military during his visit of the GHQ. The premier has to discuss important issues including the appointment of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the new Army Chief as the tenure of General Kayani ends on November 28.
The prime minister’s visit to the memorial of martyrs, however a formal gesture, but can be seen in a new perspective after controversy sparked by an outburst of Jamaat e Islami chief Munawwar Hassan in which he questioned the martyrdom of the soldiers killed in the war against terrorism by the militants.
