Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah told the prime minister that an investigation regarding the arrest of Khawaja Izhar was underway, said the Federal Information Minister, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed in a statement issued late Friday.

“Without permission from the Speaker, the arrest of any Member of Parliament is illegal,” the information minister quoted the prime minister as saying during the telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Sindh.

“The rule of law should be ensured at every cost. If the police officer is found guilty, he should be punished according to law,” the prime minister added.

Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan was arrested on Friday in broad daylight after police raided his house in Karachi, which also led to the suspension of SSP Malir Rao Anwar, who led the police party during the events.

The MQM leader was later released after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah intervened after taking notice of his arrest.
