PM Sharif invites parliamentary heads to luncheon

TOP NEWS

According to details, PM Nawaz Sharif invited the heads of parliamentary parties to a luncheon on Tuesday, during which affairs pertaining to the election of chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate will discussed.

Sources told that the prime minister will try to gain the required support of political parties in the run for key Senate seats.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are expected to have a tough competition, for which both the parties are trying their best to align others with them.

A while ago, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif also telephoned MQM chief, Altaf Hussain and inquired his well being.

The PMLN leader requested the MQM chief to favor his party in the election for Senate chairman and deputy chairman.

Sources told that this was the first contact made between PMLN and MQM on leadership level in past 17 years. Both the parties have mostly been at loggerheads with each other; however the election for key Senate posts seems to have melted the ice to some extent.

PMLN leaders have held separate meetings with representatives of MQM, ANP, JUIF and other political parties for paving the way to bring their chairman and deputy chairman in the Senate.
