CHAKWAL: In another setback to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the party’s candidate has withdrawn from the election race from Chakwal’s NA-65 constituency, ARY News reported.

According to details, the PML-N candidate Faiz Tamman withdrew his nomination papers on Saturday meaning rival Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) candidate remains the only heavy weight in the contest.

Faiz Tamman was contesting by-polls against PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s son Salik Hussain.

By-polls a number of national and provincial assemblies’ constituencies will be held on October 14, as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in August.

Eleven National Assembly and 26 provincial assembly seats fell vacant due to different reasons, including resignations by those elected on more than one seat and death of some contesting candidates.

Two National Assembly seats NA-65 (Chakwal) and NA-69 (Gujrat) were vacated by Chaudhry Pervez Elahi of PML-Q, who was elected the Speaker of Punjab Assembly.
