LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said the PML-N-led federal government has been shying away from implementing National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s decisions.

Addressing a press conference here, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has been overlooking the requests made by the anti-graft body to direct his ministry to place his party leaders on Exit Control List.

“Had the interior ministry placed former Ishaq Dar’s name on the ECL [on NAB’s request], a proclaimed offender would have been behind the bars,” he said

Taking numerous events of past into account, Chaudhry said Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal wouldn’t direct his ministry to place his party chief Nawaz Sharif on the ECL.

Commending NAB’s move to put Sharifs name on the ECL, the PTI leader accused PML-N of giving backhand support to people involved in corruption, particularly the party leaders.

Earlier today, the anti-graft body wrote to the interior ministry to place former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law retired Captain Safdar on the no-fly list.

The bureau’s request to place Sharif and members of his family on the ECL came on the heels of their application seeking exemption from appearance before an accountability court to travel to London.

The anti-graft watchdog wrote a letter to the interior ministry, asking it to include the names of the former premier, his daughter and son-in-law on the ECL.

The NAB had already approached the ministry to have the name of former finance minister Ishaq Dar on the ECL, but it had yet not taken any action in this regard.
