ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said that the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) can be called trash or ‘Imran-nama’ (a report prepared according to PTI chief Imran Khan’s wishes), ARY News reported.

In the first official response from the ruling party, the minister, like other PML-N leaders, termed the report Dharna (sit-in) three ( a continuation of sit-ins by PTI) and accused the JIT members of not sticking to their mandate and expediting the investigation to the extent of becoming a trial court itself.

“The way in which JIT was run and the way in which revenge tactics were used through JIT, this report has proved all our reservations and it won’t be wrong if you call this report ‘Imran Nama’,  as this report is the combination of a political party ‘s  accusations whose so-called evidence was even called worthless trash,” said Ahsan Iqbal.

He added that PML-N and country’s enemies will not succeed in their nefarious designs but this “JIT report will fail like Dharna One and Dharna Two”.

“This Dharna 3 too will fail like Dharna 1 and Dharna 2,” said Ahsan Iqbal.

Ahsan Iqbal also allowed one of the party’s legal counselors, Barrister Zafarullah to address the media to shed light on the legal matters and the lawyer too claimed that the JIT report reflects that it is prepared to appease PTI.

Zafarullah named some JIT members and claimed that his party and raised questions over their inclusion in JIT and their conduct. He maintained that Amir Aziz, was a part of Musharraf launched NAB while Bilal Rasool is the maternal nephew of Mian Azhar (PML-Q) and his wife was a part of rival party PML-Q and now is in PTI.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, on the other hand, termed the report ‘inconclusive’ and a ‘source-based report’ which has no worth before a court of law.

“They (the JIT) have said that they received source reports from Dubai and UK and has relied heavily on Rehman Malik’s claims,” said Khawaja Asif.

The minister said that the PML-N is still ready to fight the legal battle in the court and will demolish all accusations against the Sharif family, excercising all available legal options.
