NEW DELHI: In fresh act of brutality against the minority, Indian police set 200 homes of Muslims ablaze in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city, ARY News reported.

Police officials denied the claim that they burnt the homes. They alleged that some miscreants had committed the heinous act.

In a video gone viral on social media, a Muslim man accuses police for torching the homes.

Instead of nabbing the culprits, the security officials have reportedly arrested more than a dozen men of Muslim community.

The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to protect lives and properties of Muslims in India. The government has also curbed freedom of media as Meerut-like incidents are not widely reported.

In a separate incident, police have tortured to death two Muslims in Haryana state.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vinay Katiyar in a statement had said that Muslims should not stay in India, they should go to Pakistan.

The BJP government has increased attacks against Muslims prior to upcoming general elections in the country.

On March 7, United Nations (UN) Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet had berated India for its “divisive policies” which have extensively marginalised Muslims and other minorities in the country.

“India’s narrow political agendas are marginalising Muslims and other minorities in an already unequal society,” she had said in her annual report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

“I fear that these divisive policies will not only harm many individuals, but also undermine the success of India’s economic growth story.”
